Ip rating for outdoor use

These standards are used to define the levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies such as dirt and water. The IP rating is a two digit code indicating the type of conditions the enclosure can operate in. The two digits of the IP rating specify both protection from solids (the first number) and protection from liquids (the second digit).


Unless the exterior ceiling lights are under direct rain or contact with water, you can safely use IPor even IPrated pendant lights or ceiling mounted lights under the right cover. They are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (tools, dirt etc) and moisture.
